Pro's Tips

There are good and bad days on the golf course but even on a good day we'd all like to play that little bit better. We all need a head start sometimes, especially if you've never played the course before. That's why we've developed a set of pro's tips for Tapton Park 18 Hole Golf Course to help improve your score. The pro's tips provide you with useful tips on how to play each hole and master the course!

Hole 1
A tee shot of around 200 yards played to the left of the big tree will leave just a short iron approach to a green that slopes away from the player.

Hole 2
Driveable for the long hitter but risky. An long iron from the tee played down the left side of the fairway leaves a short shot to a green with bunkers either side and ‘out of bounds' at the back.

Hole 3
A good par 3. A ditch runs in the front of the green, with a bunker and ‘out of bounds' short & to the right. The tee shot should be played to the left for safety, and 2 putts makes a good par.

Hole 4
The longer the tee shot, the narrower the fairway. Aim to the left and the slope will take the ball into the centre of the fairway. The second shot with a mid to long iron to well guarded two tier green must be accurate. The only safe play is short of the green.

Hole 5
Drive down the centre of the fairway. 2nd shot is down hill and can be played with a variety of clubs, a slight fade is the order of the day here. The third shot into the green should be played to the right and the slope will kick the ball onto the green.

Hole 6
A tee shot of 180-200 yards will leave only a short iron to a difficult green. Both tee shot and approach are best played to the left of centre.

Hole 7
The line here is at the crooked spire, the fairway slopes to the right. The second shot is uphill and will play at least one club longer than its length. The safe play for the second shot is to the left side of the green.

Hole 8
A mid to short iron par 3. Well guarded with bunkers, and severe trouble behind and to the right. The only bail out shot is slightly long and left.

Hole 9
Driveable par 4 if you can hit a high draw. The safe play is a mid to long iron to the corner leaving a pitch into the green. A definite birdie chance!

Hole 10
A difficult uphill tee shot played straight up the centre. The second shot is tough too, played to a raised green with no real margin for error.

Hole 11
A good par 3. A ball running into the green will kick to the left, so aim right. A tee shot played deliberately short of the green could leave an easy chip and the best chance to make 3.

Hole 12
Drive up the right side of the fairway. Reachable in two, but needs an accurate second shot. Fairway slopes right to left, and the best approach for the third shot is from the right semi-rough.

Hole 13
A straight tee shot of 220-230 yards is the safest play here, but leaves a second shot of a similar length to a well guarded green. The safe play for the average player is a second shot landing 50 yards short of the green and slightly left of centre. Leaving a simple pitch and a safe bogey.

Hole 14
Driveable par 4, but a 230 yard carry uphill over the ditch. A 180-200 yard lay up leaves only a 50 yard pitch and a good birdie chance.

Hole 15
Drive left of centre. Depending on the drive length the green may be reachable, but a dangerous shot to take on from a hanging lie and played over the corner (out of bounds). Safe play is a mid iron to the top of the hill, leaving a downhill short iron to a green that slopes away from the player.

Hole 16
A drive up the left here has loads of room, and will leave only a short iron to a well guarded green. There is about 10 yards of room over the back of the green for the safe miss!

Hole 17
A 200 yard tee shot played left of centre is the order of the day here. This will leave a mid to long iron into a difficult target. Aim at the left edge of the green for the safest miss. The large bunker on the right of the green is a magnet for the miss-hit or miss-guided approach.

Hole 18
Driveable with a 250 yard slice. Safe play is a 200 yard shot played up the centre leaving a semi blind short iron into the green. Aim the second shot left of the flag and let the slope work the ball to the hole.
